Writing a book can feel like a herculean task, but it doesn’t have to be as complicated (or as painful!) as it sounds. When you develop an outline, craft a writing plan, and break it all down into manageable pieces, the writing process can be much easier than you realize.

Course Overview

In this unique online workshop, we gather by Zoom for LIVE lectures, group brainstorming, Q&A, and accountability.

You will learn how to:

=> Follow step-by-step processes to identify your writing goals and get clear about your target audience(s).

=> Craft a working title and write a compelling book description.

=> Create a detailed outline of your manuscript.

=> Make your book stand out in any crowded genre.

=> Set realistic weekly writing goals and use proven techniques to make the writing process easier.

During live meetings, we have gentle accountability check-ins (no pressure!). We also address questions, brainstorm solutions, and discuss the topic of the week. This is a judgement-free zone! Whether you reach your weekly goals or not, you will receive the support you need.

By the end of this course, you can have a first draft of your manuscript. And if you don’t quite reach the finish line within 90 days, the world won’t stop spinning. You will have made good progress and will be well-equipped to keep working toward the finish line. You will likely make some good friends along the way, too!

MEET THE INSTRUCTOR – STEPHANIE CHANDLER

Welcome, writers! If you don’t yet know me, I’m Stephanie Chandler, founder and CEO of the Nonfiction Authors Association and Nonfiction Writers Conference. I’m also an author of eleven books and have been both traditionally published and self-published. Back in 2003, I started right where you are—with ideas and goals and aspirations of writing.

I wanted a guide when I started writing, but I didn’t know where to turn. I had to learn many, many lessons by trial and error. The good news for you is that I can help you avoid making so many of the mistakes I made, along with the common mistakes new writers make.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What genres will students write about in this course?

Writers of all nonfiction genres are welcome to participate in this course. This includes prescriptive nonfiction, narrative nonfiction, and memoir. Specific guidelines are provided for each of these genres to help you create a working outline and gain momentum with your writing process. And if you’re not writing nonfiction, you are still welcome to join as the majority of the content applies for you, too!

How much time do I need to dedicate to this course each week?

We will meet live for about 90 minutes on Thursdays for the first three weeks, then every other week for the duration of the course. To write a manuscript in 90 days, we suggest you commit seven to ten hours per week to your writing practice. Here are some ways you can accomplish this goal.

=> Get up one hour earlier each day.

=> Watch one less hour of TV each day.

=> Carve out two- or three-hour blocks of time a few days per week.

Most importantly, schedule writing time in your calendar and treat it like any other essential appointment you must keep. It’s a commitment you make to yourself. The result will be incredibly rewarding.

What happens if I can't attend the live course sessions?

All live meetings are recorded and shared the same day so live attendance is always optional. Students will also connect through the private Facebook group so you will still have plenty of opportunities to interact. 

What happens if I'm unable to get my manuscript done in 90 days?

This is a pressure-free, no-judgement zone. While we hope the majority of students are able to complete the challenge, we also understand that life keeps happening and priorities shift. If you don’t quite make it to the finish line, keep in mind that you will have made some solid progress toward your goals AND have the tools and momentum needed to keep going!
