What is your book about and when was it published?
My book was Published June 2024 by Christian Faith Publishing.
What inspired you to write your book?
When my two son’s wives were pregnant and before any Dr’s appointments, I told them one of you is going to have a girl and one of you is going to have a boy. After they had sonograms sure enough one of them was pregnant with a girl and one of them was pregnant with a boy. My youngest son asked me, “How did you know what we were going to have?” I said, “Well let me tell you.” We talked for hours. The next morning both of my sons said, “Mom that so stirred our hearts up.” My youngest son told his pastor the things I had told them, and he said have your mom write that stuff down. He called me and asked me if I would write down some of the things I had told them about and bring it to our family vacation for all of us to read. It was 3 weeks before we were all scheduled to meet at Hilton Head Island in South Carolina. I told him I would and thanks for the short notice. About the third day of vacation, my youngest son came running to me and he said mom you have to turn this into a book this could help so many people. When I returned home, I called Christian Faith Publishing Co., and they asked me to send it to them. They said this was the kind of stuff they were looking for. After the Book Board reviewed my book, they called me and said congratulations, it was accepted as is. They said very few books are accepted as is.
What success did you achieve with your book that you would like to share?
The first thing I did when I received my book was take a copy to my Pastor. I wanted his blessing on it. He told me he could sense God’s anointing on it before he even read it. A couple of months later I entered it at an international book fair. I immediately started receiving emails from people in the book industry, some of them were from New York and some of them were from Los Angeles. One guy from New York, who has been working in the book industry for 30 plus years, told me my book got his attention and after reading it he said he was really impressed. The people from Los Angeles said that their scouts noticed my book and picked it out as one they said we should start promoting. They said that my book proves there really is a God. I narrowed it down and started collaborating with the guy from New York who I thought would cover the east side of the country, and I picked the people from the West coast to cover that side of the country. Both companies started promoting my book. They started setting up radio talk shows and podcast interviews and putting my book in the London Book fair and the Los Angeles Book Fair. I started sending my book to other companies in the book industry to be reviewed. I started receiving 5-star reviews from companies like Readers Favorite, Online Book Club, etc. Thrift books found my book and have been advertising it on the internet right along with articles about Trump and Biden and Kamala. A friend of mine said, “Look at that. You’re right up there with the big dawgs.” LOL.
How long did this take to achieve?
The book will be out 1 year this coming June. So less than one year.
What steps did you take that helped?
The only steps that I took were to be available, listen to the advice I was given, apply it, and join NFAA to have access to training.
Was there anything about the process that didn’t help?
The packet I picked with the publishing company included to advertise it for me. I would not advise anyone to pay a publishing company to do any advertising. They wanted to wait until the audio book was completed (this took an additional 8 months) before starting their advertising process, which they outsourced to someone else; it’s still not completed. If I had waited for them, I would still be waiting and would not have accomplished anything yet.
If the NFAA and/or our community were instrumental in helping you achieve this success, how?
I recently enrolled in NFAA’s media training course. I learned so much from the first session. I can’t wait to put it into practice. I have a podcast interview coming up with an award-winning journalist (with millions of viewers) who has interviewed presidents, Taylor Swift, and other famous people. I can tell from my first session that what I’m learning is going to help me feel so much more confident and raise the bar for what I expect from myself for any future interviews I’ll have.
What’s next for you?
I see speaking engagements in my future. I believe my job now is preparing for what’s next for me. The last place I would want my face to show up is in one of those training videos of what not to do. LOL I want to make sure I’m prepared for what my future holds, and I can see NFAA in helping to prepare me for those future plans.
